Don't "Fix" Mistyped Email Addresses

By Heinz Tschabitscher, About.com

When people sign up for your newsletter via a Web site form instead of via email, chances are you cannot reach a good number of those who want to sign up for your newsletter because they mistype their email address as they opt in.

Among the bouncing addresses, you may see obvious errors like "@hotmail.cmo" or "@msn..com". As tempting as it may be,

  • do not make any attempt to fix these addresses.

Email addresses are a private matter, and a very delicate one. That's why you should never fiddle with subscriber email addresses. If an address bounces repeatedly, just remove it.
