Guide Review - LinkABoo 1.0 - Mac OS X Mail Add-On

Need to get back to an email... after you have completed another task (which, it turns out, requires you to refer to another email)? Mac OS X Mail may have many a talent, but it is no calendar or organizer.

Your organizer helps you get things done and emails answered, but it does not know of these emails. So you resort to either keeping everything in your Inbox relying on your eagle eyes and your hand's intuitive scrolling knowledge to spot the right message at the right time? Or do you employ Spotlight searches, which typically involves quite a bit of typing and manual screening?

LinkABoo lets you create much shorter paths between, well, just about anywhere and an individual email in Mac OS X Mail. LinkABoo links work like links to web sites. You can place them on your Desktop, of course, or in the Dock, but you can also use them in a calendar program or organizer. LinkABoo links go straight to any message from your browser, too, and you can place links to emails in other emails — drafts, for example.

Creating a link is easy in LinkABoo: highlight the desired message in Mail and launch LinkABoo. You can then either drag and drop a link or copy it to your clipboard, whence it is swiftly pasted. Still, alternative ways to get links — say, right from within Mail — might appeal to some that don't want another icon in their Dock. Once a link is in place, it just works.

LinkABoo does not care how you retrieve your mail (it works with POP, IMAP and .Mac accounts equally well) or where you move it. If you file messages or particularly if you permanently delete linked emails, you can send LinkABoo spinning for a couple of minutes, though. Once LinkABoo has re-established the link, the same message opens again swiftly.
