Guide Review - blinkx 2.0.5 - Email Search Tool
That's blinkx. Except that blinkx does not interrupt you and is not merciless. But even though the blinkx toolbar indicates that it has found related web sites, news, videos, blog postings, local documents or emails in a very subtle and useful way, its sheer presence can make me a bit nervous.
The results, though often missing their target, redundant and seemingly uncontrollable (you can make blinkx search for a keyword by highlighting it), can also be very useful, if they turn up a relevant email you had not thought of or provide helpful information while you write a new message.
Unfortunately, the email results only come from (one of) Outlook, Outlook Express or Eudora, and instant messaging is completely missing. blinkx does search email attachments, though, and if you search manually, the results can be fine-grained with various criteria.
Using "Smart Folders", you can have blinkx populate regular Windows folders with links to stuff related to either their content or certain keywords. But even with these smart folders, blinkx' results seem to remain a bit disconnected. Emails are not threaded, for example, and don't connect to their author and other cross-references easily.
